COLLEGE DAYS 1 PART 1

This is a story of 7 friends who meet in a engineering college and follows there ride of moments of joy and sorrow for the next four years.

The story begins with the introduction of our characters, first niks also known as nikhil a middle class boy who got a seat in the college PCE in mechanical engg by some hard work and as well as some good luck as he was the last person to get the last seat in the college.Nikhil entered the college for the first day of college.The first year of college was common for all the branches,so niks was going through the notice board for checking out the class to which he belonged.Her is were he met sam also know as sameer. Sam the stylish dude bade baap ka beta was also a student of mechanical engineering.Both met and became good friends. Both decided to have a strall in the college u know to check out the campus All of a sudden they came across to few guys who were troubling some people these two came to know wat ragging in college meant.Four seniors were taking ragging of our stories other two characters Motu also know as moneet and ronny know as rohit. Ronny was a hard working guy from a average poor family and had been friends with motu since his childhood.Niks and Sam saw wat was going on and decided to run but they too got caught in the mishap. The seniors asked ronny and motu to slap niks and sam for their so called crime .The two were hesitant but slapped them, than all of a sudden our professor gonchuchand sorry prof gyanchand came along and all seniros ran of a sudden .But our prof got hold of our four junior friends.Prof asked wat was the problem with them,they nervous wat to say and how to tell about the ragging incident.Then he asked to them to which class did they belong.Then all four named the same class he told them to go to their classes as the lectures were going to start in a few minutes

Once upon a time in infosys, A TRUE STORY

i was sitting on the footpath right outside my hostel building with all my bags packed, waiting for the golf cart which had to drop me till the gate of the Infosys campus in Mysore. Infosys Technologies ltd. is the most prestigious software company in India and its campus in Mysore, where all the fresh entrants are trained is considered to be the best in India. I looked at the surroundings. Road was empty and there was no one around. All the trainees were attending classes as it was around eleven in the morning. A lovely breeze was blowing and I could see some birds frisking, frolicking and playing pranks with each other but I was alone. I was alone when all my friends were in the class. Now even the birds, the wind and the trees had started teasing me.

I couldn’t resist myself from shedding another drop of tear although I’d been doing the same the whole last night. Of course, I was checking out but that was not the only reason for the tears. It was something much bigger than that and very much contemptible. I was not leaving the campus after completing my training but I’d been expelled from the company. Or I can say, I was being thrown out. I felt like dying.

Then appeared the white colored cart coming from the road adjoining Food Court 2. The cart reminded me of my first day in the campus and took me into the past for sometime.

What a lovely evening that was? How excited I was when I put my first step into the heaven called as Mysore campus of Infosys and was completely engrossed with the thoughts of future that what I will do and how I’ll enjoy in the campus. First thing that came to my mind that day was to explore the campus and locate all those places I’d seen in those lovely photographs. I sat into the golf cart which took me through some long and winding but neat and clean roads. The first building I noticed was that football shaped spherical building which appeared behind the lush green cricket ground on the right side of the road. In fact that was the only building I’d seen before coming here but I was amazed to see a building on the left which was under construction. It was absolutely phenomenal and resembled the Colosseum of Rome. There was another one which resembled the White House but wasn’t white in color. Some guy in the Cart told that it is GEC or the Global Education Centre where we’ll go through our training.

The cart stopped at a small building inside which there was a kind of a reception. We got our luggage checked and room was allotted to me. The guy sitting next to me in the cab was to be my room mate. His name was Varun and was a tall but slim guy from Punjab with a lot of beard on his face looked as if he’s not shaved since ages but that really gave him a typical Punjabi looks. I was just thinking how someone like me from Gujrat will stay with such a guy who doesn’t even bother to shave his face. Then we were sent to our hostel in another cart. We just found out that our hostel is nearest to FC2 and moreover, the hostel right next to us was a girl hostel. That Punjabi straight away planned to buy a new binocular so that he could easily peep into girls rooms during night.

I opened the door of my room and could not believe my eyes. It was the best room I’d ever seen with my own eyes and was just exhilarated with the thought that I’d be staying here for next few months though with some one who looked to be very unhygienic. But that was not a problem at all coz like all the Punjabis Varun was quite nice at heart. We just kept our bags and explored the whole campus. We saw the lovely swimming pool, Gymnasium, Bowling alley, Market and Habib’s haircutting saloon from where Varun got his beard trimmed.

The classes started and we were made to sit in a big room having a huge white board with a couple of projector screens in the front and opposite to that were numerous seats each having a separate computer system. I was made to sit in the third row and luckily between a couple of girls though both of them had just ordinary looks. Later I came to know that we were made to sit alphabetically when I got introduced with both those gals. One was Ganmeet from Punjab and the other was Geetha from Mangalore and sandwiched between them was me, Gaurav Keswani from Vadodra.

Both those gals were quite antithetical in their behavior, style, knowledge and everything they did. Where Ganmeet was quite simple, Geetha was stylish like all ultra-mod and hap Bangalore gals. Ganmeet was calm, composed and reserve but Geetha was dynamic and extrovert. And most importantly, Ganmeet was good in her logics and a very strong programmer and Geetha was a contrast in this matter too. This I realized when she asked me to debug her first C-language assignment. I was shocked to see the code. She had put the include statement within main. God, she was a B.Tech in comp. science. But her cute and embarrassed smile was clearly accepting her weakness. I helped her and this became a routine. Within in no time we grew very close to each other. We used to have the meals together, we used to study together, we used to watch the movies together and we used to go out together. Our friendship grew more intense when she flunked in the first module test of C language but I got an ‘A’ and so did Ganmeet. But my roomy, Varun had also flunked. So Geetha and Varun they both had to appear for the re-test. Everyday I used to teach them and make them practice more and more. Now we were like a group. Four of us started staying together as Varun and Ganmeet, both being punjabi’s grew very close to each other. Now instead of me, it was Ganmeet who taught him.

Then came the retest. I and Ganmeet were waiting for both of them outside the hall. Varun came out happily clearly showing that he’d cleared and he did. Many came out but she was still in. I was getting worried as only I knew that the hopes were less. It was the last minute when she came out jumping and without speaking a word threw her self on me and kissed on my cheeks. Many had seen but all knew what had happened. I was stunned and so were Varun and Ganmeet. It was obvious for a guy who never had any gal in his life and was kissed by a hot south Indian gal in front of whole batch. But she took it as a very normal thing and I pretended the same.

“Its all because of you Gaurav, that I’ve cleared it. Hats off to you sweetheart”, she said.

We were not into any sort of relationship but that’s how she used to call me and in fact all her close friends. But there was nothing wrong in it and I enjoyed it. We grew more and more close to each other. She took care of me in every sense: my dressing, my eating and what ever I did. She told me many things about gals which I’d never known. We now freely shared our body secrets to each other.

On the next weekend she took me to Bangalore where she’d done her engineering degree. We met many of her friends, my friends and went to famous markets and malls of the city. One thing I could say, she’d a very happening friend circle. In the evening we went to a pub where both of us danced after gulping a couple of beer mugs. The dance grew more and more passionate with time. It was my first time in a pub but she was quite used to it. Next evening we left for Mysore which is a three hour journey from Bangalore. But there I’d spent the best weekend of my life.

On the way, we talked about everything on the earth. Then she kept her head on my shoulder and held me which I could say was half a hug. I just responded. I’d never sat like this with a gal ever in my life. Everything was so nice and tender. Time seemed like flying. I wished I could’ve been like this forever. I’d fallen in love with her.

“You know what Gaurav”, she said.

“What?” I asked.

“You remember that guy Raghav, whom we met in Garuda mall.”

“Yeah! Why?”

“We’ve been in love for last 3 years and yesterday we planned to marry.” she said shyly.

It was all over for me. Ground escaped underneath my feet. I just got away from her in a flash and asked, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

“I thought I’ll tell you after you meet him. I hope I wasn’t wrong?”

“No.. You are right. Anyways Congrats” I said, sounding very low.

“thanks.” she said.

No one spoke a word after that for next one hour. She was busy with her iPod and I was with my novel when suddenly she asked,” What happened Gaurav? Why are you so quiet?”

“Nothing”, I said.

She kept on asking again and again but I’d the same answer until she got irritated and said,” you are telling me or not?”

“Its of no use dear. You can’t do anything about it.” I said and rightly so. I loved her and she loved someone else whom she was going to marry.

“Well, let me make 3 guesses.” She said in a very naughty tone and I agreed.

“Ok. Hmmmmmmm. You didn’t enjoy with me at Bangalore?” she asked.

I shook my head straight away. Both of us knew that this wasn’t the reason. I thought she was just trying to change my mood.

“thennnn. U didn’t like Raghav?”

Now she was coming to the point. This was somewhat the reason but not the exact one.

“Hey. He’s quite good yaar and both of u make a nice couple. And it’s your life; I don’t have to marry him. So, last guess now.” I replied.

“Then… you’ve a liking for me?” She said smiling.

I was caught. In fact clean bowled. She’d hit the bull eye. I turned red. I tried my level best to control my expressions and said,”No way yaar. I don’t like to call engaged nos.”

“ohhhhh. Mr. Gaurav keswani think about it again.”

I had to admit it now. And this time she laughed. I asked the reason but again she laughed. I was perplexed at her enigmatic laugh. Finally she spoke.

“You know what my stupid.”

“What?” I inquired filled with curiosity.

“Raghav and I are just friends you dumb.”

She broke into chuckles again. I was confused and even I’d started smiling now and finally started laughing with her.

This time I held her and said, “I love you Geetha.”

“I love you too stupid. And did all this coz I know that you were not going to propose me easily” She replied.

We both fell in each other’s arms and waited for our destination. Finally Geetha was mine. It was the happiest day of my life. We reached Mysore campus and again got busy into our same daily routine: attending the classes, completing assignments, studying in the class after dinner, going for long walks and kissing each other when ever we got chance. I always used to thank god for the life he’d given me. Module tests came and went. I kept on getting ‘A’ grades and she somehow managed to clear them. Both of us were quite happy. We made a few trips with Varun and Ganmeet to Ooty, Coorg and Mangalore which was Geetha’s home town. We met her parents there who were very humble but her little sister was naughty like her.

Now we had entered the last month of our training. Shortly we were going to have our comprehensive exam which was a mixture of all the modules which we’d studied so far. It also included a practical exam in which we’d to complete a project within 3 hours and it was the toughest thing especially for someone like Geetha. The day for compre came. All of us cleared it but Geetha. Both of us were very depressed. Now she’d to appear for it again. Actually compre is the most important part of the training. If you don’t clear it your training won’t complete. Now retest was the only hope for her.

Retest was the very next day. We were going to classroom after dinner. And suddenly she started crying.

“Gaurav. I really love you.” She said.

“I love you too sweetu. Don’t cry. Everything would be ok. I’m there for you. I won’t let you flunk again.” I consoled her.

“No. I will because there’s no way out. And we’ll be separated forever. ”

“No dear. It won’t ever happen” I said and took her in my arms.

“Gaurav. Can you do something for me?” She asked.

“Of course my love. My whole life is yours.” I said.

“You’ll have to sit along with me tomorrow. You know every one does it. Meenal’s boyfriend helped her out that’s why she cleared. I hope Even I can expect this much from my love.” She said.

I was drowned into deep thinking because it was really risky, In fact very risky. We could’ve been thrown out of the company if caught. But on the other side was my love. What I would do in the company without her because if she fails she’d be out, I thought. Then I just looked into matter carefully that these people never count the number of candidates appearing for a test and how many are extra. Then I thought that I’ll sit on another system and complete the project and submit on Geetha’s employee id.

The day came; we all were sitting in the class room. I was sitting a bit far from her and finally we got the project. It was not at all tough for me. I started working on it and had completed almost half when Srikkanth.M entered into the classroom. He was our batch owner, just like a class teacher in schools. Don’t know how but he’d got the report that no. of candidates appearing were more than the no. in the list. I was shocked. It was a dead end to my career. Coming time won’t be easy for me and I’ll have to face a lot, I thought. I look at Geetha’s face. She was looking as lovely and innocent as ever. But she too was badly shocked. But don’t know why, I wasn’t afraid. Love had given me a special courage and I was doing it for my love, no one else. So what if I’m caught. Srikkanth knew me quite well as I was among those who’d got 100/100 in his module, java. He looked at me straight away and called me.

Srikkanth himself was shocked when he found me as the culprit. But he was helpless as company is very strict against the cheating cases. He asked me again and again the name of the guy for whom I’m screwing up my career. But how would’ve I named my love. I didn’t speak a word. He insisted again and again that Infosys needed brains like me but I would not listen. Finally he gave up and reported to HR department. The same question was asked again and again from me but my love was the most important thing in the world for me now. They then asked me to write a resignation letter and I did the same. I was fired.

Someone’s strange voice hit my ears and I came out of the world of my thoughts. I was still sitting on the footpath and looking at the trees and the birds.

“Come on sir. Sit in the cart.” Cart driver said.

“Oh yes. Lets go.” I replied and left the campus and the company for ever.

Now you all must be having one question your mind. That what about Geetha? Geetha cleared the exam. I think I had taught her enough and rest she cheated from the guy who was sitting next to her. I waited for her call after the incident but she didn’t. I called her but she didn’t attend my call. And most interesting thing is that it has been 8 months since that incident but we never had a talk.

and one thing i noticed was that u all have mistaken me as gaurav..

i'm not gaurav.. He was a very nice and shy guy whom i met in mysore..

but later i came to know about all this from his friends...

and from that day i decided to write a story on the incident so that all those who are going to join should be alarmed....

and one thing more....
its not that only gals use boys.. it can be a boy too...
so please tell all ur friends to read the story so that we can save more and more guys or gals like gaurav....

How to find the IP address of the sender in Yahoo! mail

When you receive an email, you receive more than just the message. The email comes with headers that carry important information that can tell where the email was sent from and possibly who sent it. For that, you would need to find the IP address of the sender. The tutorial below can help you find the IP address of the sender. Note that this will not work if the sender uses anonymous proxy servers.

Finding IP address in Yahoo! Mail

1. Log into your Yahoo! mail with your username and password.
2. Click on Inbox or whichever folder you have stored your mail.
3. Open the mail.
4. If you do not see the headers above the mail message, your headers are not displayed. To display the headers,
* Click on Options on the top-right corner
* In the Mail Options page, click on General Preferences
* Scroll down to Messages where you have the Headers option
* Make sure that Show all headers on incoming messages is selected
* Click on the Save button
* Go back to the mails and open that mail.
5. You should see similar headers like this:Yahoo! headers : nameLook for Received: from followed by the IP address between square brackets [ ]. Here, it is 202.65.138.109.That is be the IP address of the sender!

Hi freinds !
I m here to tell u a trick to add up ur name in place of AM and PM beside time and make urself to feel proud among ur group of frnds.
Its simple
Start -> Control Pannel -> Regional and LAnguage option -> Customize (beside English US) -> Go to TIME tab -> Change AM symbol and PM symbol from AM and PM to ur name -> Apply -> Ok ...
IS it changed ??? Might be not ...Now go to time in taskbar and Double Click it to open "Date and time property" ...Look place where time chnges in digital form i.e. 02:47:52 AM , click to arrow to cnage the AM or PM by selecting and press arrow. It will Show ur name or name that was entered by u, Apply -> OK and be HAPPY 8)

There are so many different ways to turn off your Windows XP computer, let's look at some of them:

1. The standard approach - click the Start Button with your mouse, then select the Turn Off menu and finally click the Turn Off icon on the Turn Off computer dialog. blink.gif

2. Press Ctrl+Esc key or the Win key and press u two times - the fastest approach.

3. Get the Shutdown utility from Download.com - it add the shut down shortcuts for you. Else create them yourself using approach 4.

4. Create a shutdown shortcut on your desktop. Right click on the desktop, choose New Shortcut and type shutdown -s -t 00 in the area where you are asked to specify the location of the program file. Now you can just double click this icon to turn off the computer. The best location would be your quick launch bar.

5. Press the Win key + R key to open the run window. Type shutdown -s -t 00. [s means shutdown while t means the duration after which you want to initiate the shutdown process].

If some open processes or application won't let you turn off, append a -f switch to force a shut down by closing all active processes.

6. Win+M to minimize all windows and then Alt+F4 to bring the Turn Off computer dialog.

7. Open Windows Task manager (by right clicking the Windows Task bar or Alt+Ctrl+Del) and choose Shut down from the menu. Useful when the Windows are not responding.

4. After Training
After completion of our training, we'll be absorbed in live projects. Our seniors, module leaders, project leaders will guide us what to do, how to do. Rest we'll have to do based upon the knowledge we gathered in training. We’ll have to do coding, testing, designing, and all the main works in a software development life cycle (SDLC) phase. There's no defined work for freshers.
Future is Very bright. I told, even you don't know to switch on a computer prior to joining Infosys, you needn't worry. They'll teach you everything. If you have a BE BTech degree, that's enough.
it might be possible that after training u(not we) could be on bench for a months or two or till IBU Allocation. They wud ask about your preference location but give u according to their requirements. they wud give u IBU according to random basis or sometimes they see the background of trainee while giving IBU, like if u are a mechanical engineer and they have some projects in product development for automobile, aerospace industries then they need u to get work done .Not at all....in fact very few freshers after trg get coding work immediately. Most probably..u will be assigned some sort of testing work. As u r on training for 1 year so they wud not expect much from u during initial time. After wards they wud see how much u have learned and decide accordingly about your performance, bonus, IBU Allocations etc.10 % of infy --- around 3000 folks are on bench at any point of time.
if anyone know extra do tell us. it wud be very helpful to us to know about training before joining.
5.NON CS People don’t worry
First let me relieve you of your fears.. A Non-CS is not in a bad position as compared to the computer engg. Whatever a non cs has studied is not being used in their work.. not even 0.0005% ... Infy is famous for its training and they will make you a good programmer thru their training... So, when u join any s/w solution provider in India, everyone starts from scratch.

A typical softie with 2 yrs exp in Infy gets about 25-30k. But that depends, all this is based on your performance.. You might get more or less depending upon it If u leave infy after 1 year.. then your salary depends on the company which you join... for e.g.. a company like accenture/IBM will pay u approx 30k.. ST -> 35k, TCS/Wipro--> 25k... one of my frnds has about 10 months exp.. and has got a job in Sapient with a package of around 40k/month.. but all depends on ur ability.. And yup all the packages above are CTC.. not in-hand salary. Also my friend suggests me that kabhi shadi mat karma company ke sath keep changing your job like your feelings with different girls at different times….so Chillex Infy is not the limit but just a step forward to a bright future.
3. Which Technology is better for future?
You need not even know how to switch on the computer. Infosys training will teach you everything.
Don’t worried about various technology, They take each and every technology as challenges, we have to love to face them. In a big company like Infosys, there are different expertise groups for different technologies. we'll be trained on a particular technology and will work for that group. But sometimes people want to switch to different technology for better prospect, better opportunity etc. Learning each technology takes a considerable amount of time and effort, which is OK to spend in student hood, but not that ok in professional life. So if ever you think of changing technology, you'll have to study besides your office work, which becomes hectic sometimes. So it's upto you

The only exception to these are, companies like Intel, google, yahoo, Microsoft etc. which are not solution providers , but who have their products and their own technology.. So, being a computer engg. Makes a hell lot of difference in these places.. But, those are an exception which doesn’t come in our daily picture. Your future is as bright as any computer engg. unless you are such a dumb person :)).. Take my word, only your work matters... Nothing else...

Have fun and enjoy now... infy will take care of your trng and will put in some project.. and after some 2 yrs. you will go onsite.. the crux is .. your life becomes so predictable in such companies that some pepl look for a change...thru MBA etc.. It is not that pepl don’t like s/w industry, or it is full of dumb pepl.. IT is full of fun.. as you have big money... big
Cities.. Traveling.. Etc... But, you get bored soon and you will look for change.. which will open you more opportunities.. So, don’t worry.. Accept the job, as workex count more than anything else in the corporate world.. Pre-MBA or post-MBA... don’t waste it... it changes your outlook incredibly.. !!!! Hope this helps...
7.Onsite Opportunities:
Onsite opportunities depend on your project, Stream and performance. If u r working for US client then chances for onsite project is little bit on lower side due to US Visa Restrictions. But no book is there to match with their "syllabus". These are for self-learning, not to pass the OLE. Don’t get afraid, if you study the study-materials well, you' score a good mark.
Ask someone working in a good company about infy training, he will tell u Infy training is the best in India. My cousin is in TCS and when I got my confirmation I went to his home and asked about software companies, growths, training etc.he just told me go ahead. he told infy training is the best and u will have a very bright future after 2 years. he also told me dimag se nikal de CAT, JMET just concentrate on your job in Infosys for 2 years and then change to some other company and then apply for some good Executive management program from good institute. You believe or not I want to add one more thing that my cousin who is working for some MNC in noida and getting 12 lac pa and did his mba from IIMC suggests me that don’t do mba yaar, Just go ahead and do good in infy.His brother is an IIT’an and got selected in IIML, C but he even suggest him not to do MBA,just do your current job (he is currently getting 4.5 lac p.a. in a pune based MNC.)

n u have to study for it from the champak (infy slang for their training material)....all OLE questions come straight from the champak n u have to mug that....u just don't need to go for any training before hand...becoz even if u know everything...it doesn't matter ...coz the champak is the bible...n thaz what u'll hafta know
all the best...n relax...the solution to all your fears lies in the holy champak.
The project allocation is totally depends upon INFY.if u have any choice or interest they can’t help u.Its totally depends on their business requirement. Enterprise Systems has highest market value...there are also many mainframes project with infy.so if u do c,java,vb etc before joining it wud not help in training as
1. What they will teach u is different
2. U doesn’t know which specific stream u get there. e.g. if u get open system then java,vb which u did before training wud not help same in the case with internet stream i.e. if u do c beforehand then it wud not help in internet stream. And nothing wud help if u get mainframes as it has COBOL programming.
The facilities at mysore are down to earth. they will provide u cycle to move around. Hostels wud be on twin sharing basis. So Chillax... and enjoy your rest of the days in full throttle...if still u r thinking of some pre joining preparation then….nobody can suggests u.do whatever u want but don’t think that it wud help in your training due to above mentioned facts.
I heard that training time is unusual i.e. we have to wake up early in the morning for YOGA then usual mundane things then training starts at 9 or 10 am. Upto 1 pm then break for lunch then 2-5 then 1 hour break then finally 6-8.
There are lots of best books in C, RDBMS, Java. but none of them will help you in OLE and also don’t have time to read extra material other than champak. Those course materials are sufficient. But you'll have to read them thoroughly.

One 50% of marks which is similar to the online tests u would have taken but with -ve mkng, 20% for programming in C and querying in SQL, 30% written. After that u will be allotted to a specific stream. But for CS people there is only one comprehensive program at the End of training.
as far as I know there r four possible streams u could go in
1. Internet Stream (java, oracle, servlets etc...)
2. Open stream (VB, oracle, UNIX shell scripting etc...)
3. Mainframes
4. ASP.NET
Our entire batch will be split up randomly after generic its a random allotment, not any performance based as they perceive all technology same. There is no incentive of doing well in training but they wud decide your performance incentive based on your performance in training. Suppose if u got internet stream and u r interested in open stream then i think u can swap with other ppl.but they don’t encourage it. U have to have convince the HR People to do so. Stream specific training requires a little more dedication on ur part. they teach u well and give u all resources like 24 hrs lab facilities and all, so its up to u how to make use of it. I know i sound clichéd but that’s how it is.
Exams in specific stream is of the same pattern as in generic stream but with negative marking but distribution of marks is different,30% on programming and 20% written.
Now the question comes which is the best specific stream which is worst if someone thinks of future and quality of work?
ASP.NET is in demand, mainframes least according to software engineers.
u need not to buy any book. Infosys has a fantastic library and whatever u may need u can get it from the library itself and one more thing, whatever comes for the exam comes from the course material provided by them so Material ko thik se rat lena
if u r from a non-IT background...u have a 3.5 months of training else 1.5 months.
first subject...CHSSC...(computer hardware n systems sw concepts) then C...then RDBMS...then u have your stream specific training...with OLEs (on-line exams)...

These r the commonly asked questions by everyone who are yet to join Infosys:
1. Any Pre-joining Preparation?
This is the most important question of the day....u don’t need to be great at programmer when u joining as a Fresher. Guys don’t be in thoughts that u r going to be future hi fundu Programmer. What others told is absolutely right. the only time during which u do some serious programming is during training and u need not be skeptical if ur non comp sci as well.infy teaches every thing from basics. Now infy does not throw out anyone. It will keep on giving you chances to pass the test until you yourself run out of company in frustration, so don’t worry.
Infosys trainings is not very tough but u need to give some extra efforts. It is three-four months long. If you don't perform well in any of the exams, you'll be given a second chance, so, attend classes carefully. Forget that you are no more a student for three months. You'll get your whole life to enjoy with your first salary, second salary and so on. But no enjoyment for first Four months.
It doesn't matter where your background is CS or non-CS.My friends were from Construction, Mechanical, Civil, Printing, Chemical and different streams of Engineering. they got same exposure, same salary, same treatment, same knowledge. don't think a CS student would be in advantageous position. All are same.
Generally our training will be broken up into 2 parts. the first part will be a generic program, which will give us basic take on comps in general during that they teach us abt networking, C , SQL and a few other very basic concepts.u have to give tests for individual modules which are online tests multi-choice no negative marking. all is from the course material popularly know as Champak u should be thorough with the course material thats all. At the ends of the genric program u have to write a comprehensive exam, which is in three parts.

TCS library is cool - you get 4 copies of 8 different newspapers, and of course there are a lot of books - mostly technical though. Everyone is given a copy of Software Engineering by Pankaj Jalote which can be kept by us until the end of the training. Other than this, we get handouts for each technical course - the courses which I mentioned in Part II - it is the duty of the library CR to collect the handouts before each course starts. Now you can issue three more books from the library - 1 technical, 1 non technical - which means wither fiction/non-fiction novel and 1 foreign language book (which you won't be taking in the first 25 days coz foreign language is a part of the integration phase). Now, one very important thing is the non technical book. You have to present a book review at the end of the Oral and Written Communication course. So it's better you issue a good non technical book - i.e a novel from the library on the second day itself - so that you don't lose out on the good books. It's important because Reviews need to be presented on books taken only from the library.

The finance induction was boring - the person dealing it Mr. Matthew told us many things other than the salary and whether there was any hike. He told us a few important things though. You need to get a PAN card within 60 days of joining TCS - otherwise you need to pay a penalty of Rs. 10,000. But worry not, TCS has a contract with an agency - you just need to fill a form and pay Rs. 72/- and submit it to the finance department - all this will be taken care of by your HR CR. If you already have a PAN card, then there is no reason to worry.

Day 2 @ TCS

First day at TCS ended with us knowing more about our batchmates - there were lots of colleges from Andhra Pradesh like Andhra University, JNTU Kakinada, SVU, GITAM (that's my coll) , GVP, GNITS, Srinidhi, SRKR, NBK - looked like 50% of the guys and girls selected from Andhra Pradesh were there. The other colleges were VNIT Nagpur and GCT Coimbatore - the VNITians were the most enthusiastic lot and GCTians were equally lively. There were also some MCA ppl from Indore. So basically, it was a cultural mix - everyone was eager to know everyone else - I remember the names of all my T08 batchmates (partly because I was the ILP CR). That brings me to the topic of CRs or Class Representatives. You may think that ILP is like school - believe me, when you go to your ILP, you will surely find out that ILP is like going 'Back to School'. There are 4 CRs selected for each batch - 1 for HR related issues, 1 for the Library, 1 for the IS (which is Infrastructure Services - they handle issues related to the computers in the lab, network connectivity, login problems etc.), and 1 for the ILP program (I was ILP CR for T08 :) ). At the end of day 1, we had with us a notepad, a Reynolds Bold blue ball point pen (forgive me for the intricate details), a temporary ID card and a personal file given to all of us by TCS. New notepads are given every 15 days. The important thing is the Personal File. The personal file is what you need to submit to TCS by the end of the second day. The photocopies of all your certificates (attested copies only - you can get attestation done at the SBI branch of Technopark), your offer letter, your joining letter (photocopies without attestation will suffice) and a copy of your passport (in case you have one) - these are the documents that have to be attached to the personal file. The file also has a lot of documents - which you need to fill in - some of the documents I remember are

ILP induction was by Mr. Koshy Vaidyan (who later became Koshy - our technical coord.) - he told us about the ILP in general. Let me digress to tell you in detail about the ILP at TCS. From this year on, i.e from 2006, the ILP pattern has been changed - it is for 50 days for all branches (earlier CS ppl had ILP for 33 days and non CS for 44 days) - now mind you - 50 days means 50 working days - which would mean that the ILP is for 63 days (9 weeks), coz we would get around 12 or 13 holidays (Sundays and alternate Saturdays - TCS works on alternate Saturdays). So, this 50 day ILP schedule is broken up into two phases -
1. Induction
2. Integration

The Induction is the same for all the batches - it basically deals with the fundamentals of software engineering and other courses. Here is the unofficial TCS schedule for Induction phase -

At the end of the first day, I could make the following observations -

1. You should be proud to be a part of TCS and generally as a part of the TATA brand - because that's the aim of the first day's induction schedule.

2. TCS has an ERP tool called Ultimatix which can be accessed at https://www.ultimatix.net - you cannot do anything with it now though if you are not yet a TCS employee. Ultimatix is the ultimate ERP tool - it is through Ultimatix that you will have to claim your reimbursements, apply for leave, view your paycheck, fill in your time sheets (this is after training i.e during your project after allocation).

3. TCS also has a global helpdesk through which you send all your requests - like activating your TCS mail ID, or reporting some problems with the computers and so on.

4. You cannot access public email clients like yahoo, gmail, rediff, hotmail and even sites like orkut and many others from any computer in TCS - they are all blocked by the server.

The first day at TCS ended - it was a stress to the mind - listening to the history of the TATA group and that of TCS - during every induction made us feel bored to hell. Overall, it was a good day - my first day @ TCS - came to know a lot of things. The next day, we had our documentation scheduled - which is the verification of certificates and collection of the service agreement among others.

Day 1 at Trivandrum went on well, slept a lot to gain on all the sleep i had lost. The next day - May 25, 2006 was my first day at TCS - we were provided with vans and buses to reach TCS - the transport cost is Rs. 17 per day (to and fro) - which is to be paid at the end of the month from your Vehicle Allowance.

TCS ILP center at Trivandrum was just like how it was in the pics I had seen. We went inside and there were around 300 guys and girls - all of them trying to have a glance at a notice board kept at the entrance. The schedule for the day was put up - I was in batch T08; our batch numbers were already told to us at the hostel reception when we checked in. There were 8 batches - T02 to T09 and batches T02 to T05 were asked to gather in an auditorium and the remaining batches from T06 to T09 were asked to gather in a class room - shouldn't be complaining but already a discrimination - T02 to T05 were the CS/IT ppl and the remaining were the non CS ppl.

So around 150 of us gathered in the classroom alloted to the four batches. The schedule for the first day was induction - from the admin, HR, MATC, ILP and finance (I don't remember exactly - forgive me for my poor memory) - after breakfast. TCS canteen is run by a private contractor. Let me tell you that the food is bad - but quite cheap; you get -
Bread and butter (two slices of bread and butter @ Rs. 6/-),
Bread and jam (same price as above),
Vada (Rs. 2/- each),
Idli (Rs. 2/- each),
Puri (a plate @ Rs. 10/-),
Dosa (Rs. 9/- a plate),
Milk (a glass @ Rs. 10/-),
and some more stuff - some days there is channa batura, some other days there are other dishes as well. TCS gives free tea/coffee coupons - which can be used any time of the day - mind you, you cannot exchange the coupons for milk or any other beverage (some of my friends tried doing it ;))

It was nothing less than a shock that I got when I got an email from TCS on May 5, 2006 - I was asked to report for the ILP on May 25 at Trivandrum. It was at a time when none of my friends, or me was expecting it - I was actually looking forward to a long vacation till September - but all dreams were shattered. We had no idea about the documents that were required, no availability in direct trains from Visakhapatnam to Trivandrum - in fact, we were not at all prepared to go for the ILP. One of my friends got his posting at Bhubaneswar and my other two friends got it at Trivandrum - both of them backed out - one got it postponed and the other was going for his MS. That left ME alone. After a hectic last minute packing, I was off to Trivandrum on 22nd May - in a journey that would not allow me to sleep because I had to change two more trains.

The journey to Trivandrum could only be worse if not worst. I missed my second train - waited for four hours in the morning from 2 to 6 in the railway station. I reached Chennai on 23rd and had to wait in the railway station for another 4 hours for my next train to Trivandrum. Travelling on long train journeys - that too alone, with no one to give you company - sometimes makes you go mad and it was madness that I endured until the morning of 24th May, when I woke up in the train to look at the beauty of God's own country - Kerala. It was raining heavily and being a first timer to Kerala - I fell in love with the greenery and blue back waters at first sight. It was so serene and peaceful and for the first time since I started to Trivandrum - I felt happy to be coming to TCS.

After the movie and the break, we had our documentation. This is where TCS collects your service agreement, your surety verification form and verifies all your certificates - actually all your certificates from class X to your Course Completion cert. of engineering/Provisional Certificate are verified, but to make matters easy, the HRs asked us to show the originals of the last semester we finished - in our case, the 8th semester marksheet - they just look at it and give it to you back. Other documents verified are the -

1. Birth Certificate - lot's of queries here - you cannot show your class X certificate as DOB certificate. TCS is asking for your original birth certificate issued by the municipal corporation of the city of your birth. If your name is missing (which is my case too) or if your birth certificate is in your mother tongue - then I suggest you to go to a notary or a lawyer, get an affidavit stating your date of birth, your parents' name and the place of your birth. It should not cost more than Rs. 80.

2. Course completion certificate or Provisional Certificate.

The documentation was completed in express time - the HRs were very efficient. Following the documentation, we had the library induction. Now some details about the library

1. Profile - details about you, your educational qualifications and so on.
2. Nomination for Super Annuity (this is for nominating someone - mostly your parents, to get compensation in case of your untimely death - don't worry - that will not happen).
3. Nomination for Provident Fund (for this and for Super Annuation - you need to mention the name of the nominees, their date of birth and the percentage of nomination - for example, if I want to nominate my mom and dad - then I may give 50% to my mom and 50% to my dad as percentage of nomination - so the point is decide beforehand the percentage of nomination and also know the Date of Birth (as in records) of your nominees.)
4. Passport Details
5. Non Disclosure Agreement - which says that you should not divulge any information about TCS. (which is exactly what I am doing now :D )
6. A document which you need to sign saying that you have no conflict of interest with TCS - if you have any, you can mention it (I don't think any of us did).

There are some more documents - I don't remember exactly. There are a lot of signatures required - you also need signatures from two witnesses who can be any of your friends at TCS. And make sure you have sufficient number of passport photographs - you will be needing them.

The schedule for day 2 was a movie (that's right - a movie whose title I have forgotten - it is a biography of Jamshedji Tata - a 1 hour movie - most of the guys slept throught the movie), the documentation (this is different from the personal file), library induction, finance induction and bank account opening

The daily schedule will have 4 slots with 2 tea/coffee breaks and 1 lunch break and it may typically be like this

9 to 11 - A Slot
11 to 11.30 - Break
11.30 to 1.15 - B Slot
1.15 to 2.00 - Lunch
2.00 to 3.30 - C Slot
3.30 to 4.00 - Break
4.00 to 5.30 - D Slot
5.30 to 5.45 - Submission of feedback forms/meetings

The timings could vary but not a lot - it may be around 15 minutes either way. Each batch has two coordinators - one technical and one life skills coordinator (will tell you about technical and life skills later). Our technical coordinator was Koshy and for life skills it was Nisha Dev (the faculty insist that we call them by their first name :) - no more Sir/Madam formalities).

So, after breakfast, we proceeded to our induction sessions. Let me tell you what Induction actually is - it is nothing but a formal welcome by all the departments of TCS - the admin induction was by Col. Nair, who is the admin incharge of TCS, Trivadrum. He's a very lively and jovial chap - he welcomed us to TCS, Trivandrum and then he went on to talk about the rules and regulations to be followed in the hostel as well as work - like for example he said, guys ought to be back in the hostel by 10 pm and girls ought to be back by 9 pm. And also that, no guy must be found in a girl's room and vice versa. The admin department handles things like accomodation, transport, food in the TCS canteen and so on. And then we had the other inductions - by HR, by MATC - which is Manpower Allocation Task Committee who handle our allocations after training (it was by a female named Sheena - she's one ruthless lady - the first thing she told us was that WE WOULD NOT BE ALLOCATED TO PLACES NEAR OUR HOME TOWN for our project - so you know her character now).

TCS Executive Hostel has around 150 rooms - each room is furnished with 2 beds, 2 study tables, a cupboard for 2 people, a dressing table, 1 plug point for mobile phone charging and an attached bathroom - believe me, the accommodation can't get better than this. The hostel has two outdoor shuttle courts, a gym (not many facilities in the gym though), a recreation room with a TV, carom board and Table Tennis table, a common TV for each floor and a restaurant that can seat around 200 people at a time. Each floor gets three newspapers - The Hindu, The Indian Express and ET. There is also a browsing center which charges Rs. 25 for an hour of browsing (half the computers don't work most of the time though), a small utility shop for buying things like from pencils to badminton racquets, two STD booths and a laundry service (called Al-Khobar Laundry service; charges are exorbitant - Rs. 13/- for a pair of shirt and trousers - washing and pressing). The only bad thing about the hostel is the restaurant - the food served is not great - and the fact that the hostel is located in a village and there are few places to go to around the hostel - you do have a number of small restaurants outside the hostel at walk able distance - recommended ones are Hotel Chennai and Veg World.

The hostel rent is Rs. 110 per day, so you need to pay Rs. 3300 every month from your HRA. Techno Park is about 1 km from the executive hostel and TCS is about 2 km from the hostel. Techno Park also has other companies like US Technologies, IBS and many unheard ones. Techno park has other things too - it has a hospital called Ojus, a State Bank of India branch, a SBI ATM, a small departmental store, a place for junk food, a courier office, a dress showroom, an internet browsing center - these are the things that I can remember

Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum was quite unlike many cities that I have been to. People in this place don't mind rains - even if it rains throughout the year. 100% literacy rate in Kerala means that everyone knows how to read and write Malayalam - and all of them can put in their signature. The auto rickshaws charge for both to and fro - if you travel from A to B, then you need to pay double the amount given on the meter, so if you want to come back from B to A - you need not pay anything more. The buses have no numbers and everything everywhere is written only in Malayalam. Everyone in Trivandrum knew about Techno Park - that's where TCS is situated, and I later realized that Techno Park is the only place famous in Trivandrum apart from the beaches. I was asked to report at the TCS Executive Hostel which is about 18 km from the railway station - and when I reached Kenton Leisure (that's the actual name of the executive hostel), the place was teeming with people. I was allotted Room No. 318 (I don't know why I'm going into the tiniest of details!!) and my room mate was Sridhar - he was from GCT, Coimbatore - but in an hour I had to change my room because Sridhar's friend Mohanbabu from GCT wanted to be in room 318 - so I had to move into 319. And my room mate was missing - I could only find his baggage in the room - he had apparently gone out. Now, one small clarification - you cannot change rooms at will in the hostel - it so happened that myself, Sridhar and Mohanbabu were in the same batch.

Before I elaborate on life at TCS - I would like tell you all (I still seriously doubt how many people would actually be reading this!!) that I worked in TCS for less than a month, so you may be right when you think that I have no right to talk about my association with TCS considering the very little amount of time I spent in TCS - but still, I feel sharing my experiences with you all would surely help you. And before you also begin to wonder why I left TCS - it's nothing personal - I quit TCS because I am going for higher studies. For most of you (I really don't know how many!), TCS must be the first company on campus and most of you had to stick to TCS coz your college did not allow multiple placements. Sometimes, I feel India is not a democracy yet!! And folks I belong to the same category - first company TCS and no multiple placements.

This useful application will let you record incoming and outgoing phone calls. CallRecorder can start recording automatically or ask whether to record a conversation or not - this will depend on the rules you set.
How to start:

1. First, you should turn CallRecorder on. To do this, press Options and select Settings command. In Settings dialog you can turn CallRecorder on and set up some options;
2. After that you should set rules for CallRecorder - considering these rules the application will or will not record phone calls;

Main view:

You can find all recorded phone conversations in the main view of CallRecorder. The following functions are available here:

* Play record. You can change the volume with joystick left/right arrows while a record is being played. To change speaker from loud to quiet or vice versa set an option Play volume in Settings dialog to a corresponding value;
* Call a contact or a phone number. If the highlighted record has a phone number, you can dial it even without exiting CallRecorder - just press Call button or select this command;
* Send via Infrared/Bluetooth/Email/MMS you can send the recorded conversation with the help of this command;
* View contact (hot key: '*') displays a dialog with a contact;
* Properties (hot key: '5') displays a dialog with record's detailed properties;
* Delete (hot key: 'C') deletes marked records;
* Delete all (hot key: 'Pen+C');
* Pack deletes all records that don't have a sound file;
* Refresh actualizes the list of records;

Records that don't have a sound file are marked by red color.
